Bad news for Black Clover fans, the production committee of the long-awaited Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King movie has just announced its postponement to a later date, due to production difficulties.

Like several other projects at the start of 2023, such as The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2Bofuri Season 2 or Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible, the feature film was directly impacted by the health crisis, making it impossible to release it for March 31, as originally planned.

Black Clover

Fortunately, its new release date has already been scheduled for June 16, 2023, in Japanese cinemas and everywhere in the world streaming on Netflix, about two and a half months later than the original date.

It will therefore be necessary to have a little more patience before finding Asta and discovering the story of the former Emperor-Mage Konrad Leto, who will therefore be revealed to us this summer!

As a reminder, the film Black Clover is directed by Ayataka Tanemura at the animation studio Pierrot. Ai Orii and Johnny Onda are co-writing the script while Itsuko Takeda is credited as the character designer. The music is composed by Minako Seki and Yuki Tabata supervises the project. Boy’s band TREASURE performs “Here I Stand” for the theme song.

The Black Clover anime is adapted from the eponymous manga by Yuki Tabata, pre-published by Japanese publisher Shueisha in February 2015 in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. In France, the manga has been published by Crunchyroll (formerly Kazé) since September 2016, while the animated series can be found in full on Crunchyroll.

Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King Synopsis

(The synopsis of the film has not been specified at this time. We just know that it will be an original screenplay supervised by Yuki Tabata, and centered on the story of  Konrad Leto: the predecessor of the current Emperor-Mage.)

We follow  Asta and Yuno, two boys abandoned in the same church and become inseparable.

As children, they swore to do everything to one day become the new Emperor-Mage!

However, the more they grow, the more a gigantic gap grows between the two boys. While Yuno seems set to become a genius magician, Asta seems unable to use magic and decides to compensate for his shortcomings by training physically.

When their fifteenth birthday finally rings, and as tradition dictates, the two boys must receive their grimoires. Yuno gets one adorned with a four-leaf clover, whereas the average magician only gets three, and Asta receives none.

However, Yuno suddenly finds himself threatened and Asta then awakens his true power and finally obtains a grimoire with a five-leaf clover!

From then on, the two boys separate but always with the same objective in mind:  to become the next Emperor-Mage!
